Alice Mae Hoff

Rock Rapids, IA        Alice Hoff, age 83 of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, May 26, 2017 Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.        Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 31st at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA.        Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.        Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.        Alice Mae Doppenburg was born on January 15, 1934 to Bert and Lena (Hofcamp) Doppenburg on a farm in Chandler, MN. She was baptized at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church. Later her family moved to Leota and joined the Leota Christian Reformed Church. Alice grew up in Leota and attended the Leota Christian school through the eighth grade. She then attended Southwest Christian High School for one year. Alice worked at the Leota Store one year, after which she lived and worked in Luverne, MN at the Council Oak Store. On August 13, 1953, she was united in marriage to Calvin Hoff in Leota, MN. She lived with her parents in Leota while Calvin served in the U.S. Army. In 1955, they moved to a farm near Rock Rapids. They lived there until 1986 when they moved into town.      Alice became a CNA and worked at the Rock Rapids Health Centre. Later she owned and operated Flower Village with the help of loyal employees. After eleven years she sold the business and worked at Premier Estates part-time as a cook. She later volunteered at Dinner Date. Alice was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served on the Western Chapter Fair Booth and Library committee. She enjoyed reading, cooking and sewing.      In 2014, she became a resident at Lyon Manor and after going home for a while, she became a resident of Royal Meadows in Sioux Center, IA. Alice very much appreciated the care provided at both care centers.      She loved the Lord and the blessing she received in friends and family. Alice loved her children, grandchildren and praised the Lord also for four great-grandchildren. Alice will be greatly missed.        Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Calvin Hoff of Sioux Center, IA; four children, Connie (Doug) Julius of Orange City, IA, Vyron (Lori) Hoff of Rock Rapids, IA, Anita (Barry) Hanenburg of Colorado Springs, CO and Curtis Hoff of Rock Rapids, IA; ten grandchildren: Gina (Dan) Pekofske, Alissa (Brad) Holtz, Michael Julius, Stephanie (Jordan) Kronberg, Chris (Kelsey) Hoff, Brian Hoff, Emily Hanenburg, Matthew Hoff, Ben Hanenburg and Kaitlin Hanenburg; four great-grandchildren: Vincent and Xavier Pekofske, Aaliyah Hoff and Everett Kronberg; three siblings: Kathleen (Jim) Ludens of Sioux Falls, SD, Gary (Donna) Doppenburg of Sheldon, IA and Donna (Daryl) Hanenburg of Edgerton, MN; brother-in-law, Dallas (Carol) Apol of Sioux Center, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.        She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Lena Doppenburg; and sister, Gladys Apol.
