Hills, MN Kevin Van Malsen age 57 of Hills, MN died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN with Rev. Jeremy Wiersema & Rev. Merv Kramer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery at Steen, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 12th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Kevin Van Malsen was born March 7, 1960 at Luverne, MN, the son of John and Roma Jean (Lyons) Van Malsen. Kevin grew up at Hills, MN. At the age of 12 he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and also was baptized at that time. He attended school in Hills and graduated from Luverne High School in Luverne, MN. Throughout his life he worked at Novartis Animal Health, drove mail truck for the US Postal Service, worked for Architechual Millwork and the Sioux Falls Arena as general maintenance. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting ducks, pheasants and deer, going fishing, playing tennis, backyard football and playing with his dog “Gordie.” Over the years, Kevin made 5 trips to Switzerland to visit a close friend, a memory he cherished. Kevin was a great friend to many people. He was a member of the Brandon Valley Baptist Church and had many friendships at the Steen Reformed Church. Kevin died this past Saturday morning, July 8, 2017 at the Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of fifty-seven. He was survived by his mother, Jean Van Malsen of Hills, MN; brother, Gary Van Malsen of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Shari (Grant) Matthews of DeLano, MN; and two brothers-in-law Mike Peterson of Hatton, ND and Bob Johnson of Humbult, SD. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, John; two sisters, Susan K. Johnson and Bobbi Peterson..
