Mae Top, age 91 of Hills, MN died Friday, July 14, 2017 at Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Rev. Ron Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Flowerfield Cemetery of Hills. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. In lieu of flowers family wish memorials which will be directed to charity. Mae Lorraine (Ziegahn) Top was born on September 27, 1925 on a farm near Valley Springs, SD. Her parents were William and Elsie (Ottman) Ziegahn. She attended school in Valley Springs and graduated high school in 1944. During her high school years, she did housework for her teacher, Blanch Outka. Mae was united in marriage to Hyman Top of Luverne, MN on May 27, 1944 in Garretson, SD. They farmed and had a trucking business near Ellsworth, MN. In 1980, Mae started working at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. She worked for 11 years in the kitchen and laundry departments. Mae was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of rural Ellsworth, MN for 56 years. Mae and Hyman moved to Hills, MN in 1989, where she became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of the Luverne VFW Auxiliary, a member of the Tuff Memorial Home Auxiliary in Hills, a member of the Hills Senior Citizens, where she acted as president and secretary. Mae was also a volunteer at the Tuff Memorial Home and a member of the BLCW quilters. Mae enjoyed doing many crafts, crocheting, card-making, scrapbooking and jewelry designing. Mae moved to Tuff Village in 2001, and became a resident of the Tuff Memorial Home in June of 2016. She is survived by her three children, daughter, Geraldine (James) Sandstede of Luverne, MN; son, Allan (Judy) Top of Hills, MN; and son, Billy (Judy) Top of Sibley, IA; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 4 nephews; and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hyman; brothers, Russell (Tressa) Ziegahn, George (Margaret) Ziegahn; twin sister, Fae (Leslie) Aukes; and grandson, Danny Sandstede.
