Carl Dieters

     Carl Dieters age 84 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Friday, August 11, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.        Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Kathy Sides officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.        Military Honors will be provided by Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960 VFW and Rex Strait Post No. 103 American Legion.        Visitation with family present will be Tuesday morning at the United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00.      Carl Dieters was born September 12, 1932 in Rock Rapids to Ben and Berniece (Reid) Dieters.  He graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1951 and attended Worthington Junior College prior to  entering the United States Navy.  On October 5, 1957, he was united in marriage to Eva Pomrenke at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids.  To this union two children were born.  The couple lived their entire lives together in Rock Rapids.  Carl worked at the elevator in Rock Rapids until his retirement in 1990.  He served as a volunteer firefighter in Rock Rapids for many years.  During their lives together Carl and Eva enjoyed traveling, spending time with their grandchildren, monthly card club meetings with friends and playing golf.  They took up golf later in life, truly enjoying the game and spending time with each other.   Carl and Eva always looked forward to football season and their “road trips” to watch the games alongside Tami and the grandkids.            Those memories will be held especially dear.  He had a wonderful sense of humor, a ready smile and usually witty reply.   His family meant everything to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.   Carl was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids.  This past Friday Carl passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls as the age of 84.  He will be greatly missed.       He is survived by his daughter, Tami (Mike) Breske of Moscow, ID; grandchildren, Cari (Mike) Culwell of Greeley, CO, Adam (Danielle) Breske of Sioux Falls, SD, Taylor Breske of Lake Forest, CA; five great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice (Don) Norton of Sioux Falls, SD; and other extended family members.          Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Berniece Dieters; loving wife, Eva Dieters; son, Kurt Dieters; sisters, Darlene Reynolds and Wilma Schubert; and brother, George “Butch” Dieters.
