George, IA Leslie “Les” Timmer age 67 of George, IA died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 31st at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church in George, IA with Pastor Brian Schafer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 30th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Leslie “Les” William Timmer was born December 29, 1949, at George, IA the son of William and Earleen (Chadwick) Timmer. He grew up and attended school at George. He graduated from George High School in 1968. On May 30, 1969, Leslie was united in marriage to Judith Dunn at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church in George, IA. They made their home in the Rock Rapids area and in 1984, they moved onto the home place. Up until that time Les worked as a mechanic at an implement shop in Rock Rapids, worked for a roofing company in Rock Rapids, was a hired farm hand for Kooikers and later for Vertis Garnmiester. In 1974, he started farming along with raising livestock. For ten years Les worked at the sale barn in Sioux Center. Some of his hobbies included hunting, sports – either playing or coaching, car racing, watching the Yankees or the Cowboys and for years he loved to decorate the farm with Christmas lights. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren doing a variety of things but he especially liked to teach them to drive at an early age. Les was a member of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church at George. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Judith Timmer of George, IA; their children, Teresa (Reed) Sailer of Sioux Falls, SD and Scott (Michelle) Timmer of Rock Rapids, IA; daughter-in-law, Megan Timmer of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; sisters, Lorene (Daryl) Wessels of George, IA; Diana Kruse of Simpsonville, SC and Kathy Timmer of Lake Worth, FL. Leslie was preceded in death by his son, Mathew Timmer; parents, William and Earleen; sister, Shirley Bruns and brother-in-law Marlin Kruse.
