She grew up on a family farm near Ashton, IA with her younger brother Marvin. Sally graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1940. Upon graduation, she met the love of her life, Vincent Marnach, from Emery, SD. Vince came to Ashton and worked as a hired man for her father. On October 12, 1942 they were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA. Shortly after, Vince was drafted into World War II and Sally traveled to be near Vince in Oakland, CA where she worked as a file clerk. Other than the 2 years in California, Sally lived her whole life in Ashton, IA. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Guild, a 50 year plus member of Catholic Daughters of America and also the American Legion Auxiliary and 100 Club. Sally and Vince raised 6 children: Linda, Leon, Lois, Loren, Leta and Lyle. Their life was dedicated to their children and farm life until the untimely death of Vince on September 23, 1983. Sally continued to share her life with the countless family activities of her 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren which gave her great joy! She was looking forward to two more new great-grandchildren on the way. Besides spending time with family, she always enjoyed attending daily Mass, coffee times and playing cards with special friends (some would call her the Card Shark). Also, she delighted in hanging out at Ruby’s and The Hangout, sewing, gardening, baking, embroidery and painting ceramic items, all of which she gifted each year to family and friends. Sally lived a faith-filled, independent life until August 25, 2017 when her health took a turn. She entered Sibley Care Initiatives on September 14, 2017 to rehab – to go home. Her wishes were granted and she entered her heavenly home on October 5, 2017. Those left to cherish her life are her 6 children: Linda (Roger) Olson, Omaha, NE; Leon Marnach (special friend Pam Wehmeyer) Ashton, IA; Lois (Michael) Fleming, Sibley, IA; Loren (Nancy) Marnach, Ashton, IA; Leta Fransen, Sibley, IA; Lyle (Peggy) Marnach, Harrisburg, SD; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law: Lorraine Marnach and Bernice Marnach both of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces, nephews and friends.
