Rock Rapids Jenieva Kastein age 99 of Rock Rapids died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 9th at Bethel Reformed Church rural Little Rock, IA, with Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 8th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Jenieva Vander Maten Kastein was born on April 19, 1918 in Alton, IA to Herman and Hattie (Van Oort) Vander Maten. She was the second oldest in a family of eleven and grew up on a farm south of Boyden, IA. She married Peter Kastein on January 18, 1940 on her parents' farm near Boyden. The couple farmed in various locations, mostly Steen, MN and Rock Rapids, IA. Jenieva was always active on the farm and even after retiring, listened to the markets and asked, 'the boys' how things were going on the farm. Her husband, Pete, passed away October 18, 2005. Jenieva was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church of Ellsworth, MN, where she enjoyed attending Bethel Fellowship and Women's Bible Studies. She loved being surrounded by family especially on fishing vacations where she usually out fished us all! Everyone loved her ice cream buckets full of chocolate chip cookies and playing rummy with her. On January 1, 2006, Jenieva moved to the Carroll Street apartments in Rock Rapids, IA. where she enjoyed the coffee and fellowship there. In the fall of 2011, she entered the Rock Rapids Health Center and on November 5, 2017 she passed away there at the age of 99. She is survived by four daughters and two sons, Helen (Bob) Klein, Sioux Falls, SD, Marlene (Al) Top, Edgerton, MN, Jan (Alan) Aanenson, Dent, MN, Bill (Shari) Kastein, Rock Rapids, IA, Holly (Denny) Mulder, Steen, MN, and Peter G. Kastein, Rock Rapids, IA.; Fifteen grandchildren, Jodi (Milo) McDowell, Wendi (Rob) Groen, Heidi (Darin) Pauli, Michelle (Todd) Van Essen, Shari (Eric) Binford, Tricia (Darin) Beckering, Jason (Jennie) Aanenson, Angie (Jason) Thompson, Stacy (Wayne) Fuerstenberg, Travis (Angie) Aanenson, Melissa Aaker, Jerry (Kerry) Mulder, Randy (Mardi) Mulder, Becky (Dane) Olsen, and Kelly (Tom) Knips.; Forty-two great-grandchildren.; Three sisters, Cia (Chap) VanderPloeg, Mynie (Gene) Beernink, Kaye (Herb) Kuyper and one brother Hermie (Marilyn) Vander Maten. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Peter; parents, grandson Al Top, Jr. three sisters and their husbands Allie (Myron) Korver, Gert (Bill) Huisman, Harriet (Wilbur) Harmelink and three brothers John Vander Maten, Hans (Millie) Vander Maten and Bill (Ann) Vander Maten as well as her in-laws, Mae (Arnold) Vander Wilt, Gerrit (Tracy) Kastein and Ethel (Case) Langstraat.
