Ashton, IA        Brian Daiker age 44 of Ashton, IA died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.        Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 9th at First Reformed Church in Sibley, IA, with Rev. Luke Schouten and Fr. Allan Reicks officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 8th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at First Reformed Church in Sibley.        Brian Joseph Daiker was born July 6, 1973 at Lake City, Iowa, the son of Warren Joseph and Marilyn Jean (Gingery) Daiker. As a youth, Brian lived in Lohrville, Churdan, and Schaller, IA and spent his winters in Zapata, TX. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Storm Lake, IA in 1992, Iowa Central Community College in Storm Lake, IA with an Associate Degree in 1994, and Briar Cliff University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1996. After graduation, Brian farmed with his father, and worked at the Storm Lake Times, along with a variety of other jobs, to finance his future goal to become an attorney. Brian worked hard and graduated in the top half of his class from Creighton Law School, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 2001. He then continued on to the University of Arkansas, where he received his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Law. After graduation he began his career as a Lawyer for Cambridge Law Firm in Atlantic, IA. While working in Atlantic he became the city attorney for both Atlantic and Griswold, Iowa and was an active member Nishna Valley YMCA Board of Directors. It was in Atlantic, IA when he met his future wife, Jamiey, at a Jaycees meeting.        Brian was united in marriage to Jamiey L. Gaalswyk on April 8, 2005. Two children were blessed to this union, Elliot Joseph and Olivia Berlynn. They lived on an acreage near Wiota, IA. In 2009 Brian and his family moved to Ashton, IA, where he worked at Dekoter-Thole & Dawson PLC in Sibley, IA. In April 2011 he joined the firm, Hedeen Hughes & Wetering in Worthington, MN and was the city attorney for Adrian, MN.        Brian was known as a community leader, active with the Hospice Cottage in Worthington, past President of the Worthington Noon Kiwanis, charter representative for Boy Scouts Pack 134, and was a member of both the Minnesota and Iowa Bar Associations. He enjoyed skiing, boating, traveling, spending time with his family and having a good time with all those around him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, who was always present for his wife and children’s activities.        He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Jamiey Daiker of Ashton, IA; two children, Elliot Joseph age 11 and Olivia Berlynn age 5; his mother, Marilyn J. Daiker of Fonda, IA; five siblings, Laura (Joel) Eccher, Linda (Chris) Mercer, both of Fonda, IA; John (Jennifer) Daiker of Sioux Falls, SD, Diane (Jeff) Krafka of Bettendorf, IA and Ron (Diane) Daiker of Yorktown, VA; parents-in-law, Stan and Gert Gaalswyk of Sibley, IA; four brothers-in-law, Terry (Sherry) Gaalswyk of Worthington, MN, Tim (Jennifer) Gaalswyk of Lancaster, PA, Scott (Jennifer) Gaalswyk of Canton, SD and Russ Gaalswyk of Sibley, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.        He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Thomas Daiker; his father, Warren Joseph Daiker; and several nieces and nephews. Brian was well loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
