George, IA John Julius age 94 of George, IA died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in George, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 11th, 2017 at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church in George, IA with Pastor Brian Schafer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA. Visitation will be Sunday, December 10th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. John Julius was born November 6, 1923, on a farm north of George, IA, the son of Simon and Jennie (Walters) Julius. John grew up on farms in the George, Little Rock and Ellsworth areas. He was united in marriage to Martha Renken on March 3, 1944. They lived their married life farming near Ashton, Iona and Luverne. In 1960 they purchased the now “Renken/Julius Century Farm” at George, Iowa. John was a hard worker and took pride in farming and raising hogs and cattle. John enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar. He was a longtime member of Lyon County First Presbyterian Church. John had a love for learning. He won an iPad and diligently learned how to use it. He enjoyed tracking family and friends on Facebook and keeping up with the local, national and world news. Knowing the daily financial and grain market reports was part of his day. In June of 2017, John became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Society in George where he died this past Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the age of 94 years and 29 days. He is survived by his four children, Donna (William) Meinen of Sioux Falls, SD; Betty Espinosa of New Boston, MI; Alan (Eleanor) Julius of George, IA; Ronald (Val) Julius of George, IA; along with ten grandchildren, Dean (Mofya) Meinen of Washington, DC; Alisa (Todd) Mulhair of Minneapolis, MN; Matthew (Kristin) Espinosa of West Bloomfield, MI; Ashley (Josh) Godbersen of George, IA; Trishia (Paul) Baylor of Ankeny, IA; Adam (Cindi) Espinosa of New Boston, MI; Abby (Travis) Ellerbroek of Atlanta, GA; Devin Groeneweg of George, IA; Morgan Groeneweg of Rock Valley, IA; Ashlyn Groeneweg of Rock Valley, IA; six great grandchildren; Hailey Godbersen, Kolton Godbersen, Sloan Espinosa, Adam Jr. Espinosa, Emerie Baylor, Alexandra Diallo-Meinen and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his parents, Simon and Jennie; grandson Johnathon Ray; four brothers, Henry, Frank, Raymond, Harold and one sister Mary Winkel.
