George, IA Henry R. “Hank” Timmermans age 85 of George, IA died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen, IA. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26th, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA with Rev. John Pea, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday, December 26th with the family present at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to: the Alzheimer’s Association. Henry R. Timmermans was born September 5, 1932 to Henry John Timmermans and Henrietta Vande Vegte Timmermans in rural Rock Valley, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Rock Rapids, Iowa in May of 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 18, 1950. There he was a medic on the U.S.S. Consolation, which was anchored off the coast of Korea. After being discharged from the Navy in 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Marybelle Joan Weatherly. Their first home was in Iowa City, Iowa where he was a student at the U of I and Marybelle was a nurse at the U of I Hospital. Upon leaving Iowa City, Hank and Mary moved to Sioux City and then later to Rock Rapids, Ia. where Hank worked at the Rock Rapids State Bank. In 1959 Hank and Mary bought Smid Insurance from John and Tracy Smid in George, Iowa. He was in business in George until 1994 when he sold Otter Valley Insurance and Real Estate to Tim and Sandi De Bruin. Hank was an active member of the United Methodist Church in George until it closed and then he and Marybelle joined Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He held several offices and served on many committees in both churches. He was also a member of Border Lodge No. 406, Abu Beker Shriners, American Legion Jack Sauter Post 404, Farmers Mutual Insurance Association and served on several other boards in the community including the George Chamber of Commerce, George Recreational Trail Committee and Otter Valley Country Club. Hank loved to do wood work. He built many wonderful toys and beautiful pieces of furniture and decorations for his children and grandchildren to cherish. He and Mary loved to travel and took the family many miles across the country in their travel trailers. He also loved to golf, fish and spend time with family at their cottage at Lake Okoboji. George was home; it is where Hank and Mary raised their 5 children: Mike (Eileen) Timmermans, Vinton, Ia.; Cathy (Dave) Huff, George, Iowa; Terri (Dan) Duistermars, Orange City, Iowa; Suzy (Jim) Berglie, Fargo, N.D., Jana (Russ) Adams, Orange City, Iowa. Left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren; Laura Pfaltzgraff, Liz Mathews, Ross Timmermans, Emily Shern, Marcie Schuiteman, Sam Huff, Dani, Darbi and Davis Duistermars, Kristen Berglie, Ashley Stanislav, Nick and Noah Adams, 19 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Karyn (Clarence) Boer, Fiddy (Mel) Hamann, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his wife of 60 years, Marybelle, his parents, Henry J. and Henrietta, mother and father-in-law, Bruce and Phyllis Weatherly, 2 sisters, Eleanor Mae Schlotfeldt and Maryjane Timmermans and brother and sister-in-law Bob and Donna Weatherly.
