Rock Rapids, IA        Evelyn M. Morton age 89, of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.        Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 4th at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Kathy Sides officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.        Visitation will be Thursday, January 4th one hour prior to the service at the United Methodist Church of Rock Rapids, IA.        Evelyn May Morton was born December 29, 1928 near Sanborn, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Murlenburg) Kroese. She grew up on a family farm northeast of Sanborn and attended country school and Sanborn Community School. As a young lady she provided housekeeping for several families in the area and worked as a waitress at Jay’s Restaurant in Sanborn.        She was united in marriage to Ralph Morton on July 13, 1953 in Sanborn, IA. They moved to Miami, FL for a short time and returned to Sanborn. In 1956 they moved to Rock Rapids, IA. Evelyn was a homemaker and sold Avon Cosmetics for 45 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, reading and visiting with family and friends. She often would go to the grocery store to visit with people. She will be remembered as a strong woman with a good work ethic. Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving mother and family member.        She is survived by her son, Dennis Morton of Rock Rapids, IA; and many nieces and nephews.        She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Kroese; her husband of 52 years, Ralph Morton; her infant son, David Morton; two sisters, Elsie Robinson and Jeanette Pippinger; and three brothers, Isaac Kroese, Martin Kroese and Donald Kroese.
