George, IA Bruce Kannegieter age 65 of George, IA died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at at his home in George, IA. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George, IA with Reverend John Pea, officiating. Burial will follow in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery at George, IA. Visitation will be Monday, January 15th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Bruce Wayne Kannegieter was born December 19, 1952 at Sheldon, IA, the son of John “Junior” and Marjorie (Wynia) Kannegieter. He grew up in the George area where he attended George Community Schools graduating in 1971. Bruce enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly after high school, where he served four years prior to transferring into the United States Army. He served from1972-1993 and during that time served overseas in Germany, Korea and Japan. Bruce was married to Dawn Johnson and to this union two children were born Shawn and Magali. After retiring from the military, he and his family lived in San Antonio, TX for a few years before moving back home to George. He worked at Pella Windows in Sioux Center, IA for several years and Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD as a valet, which he enjoyed very much. He enjoyed watching football with son and grandkids, remodeling his home, spending time with his dog, Gypsy, and gardening. Bruce liked meeting his friends for coffee. He would do anything for anybody; loved to talk to waiters and other people he didn’t know. Completely selfless individual. The very definition of what a man should be. Bruce is survived by his son, Shawn Kannegieter (Heather McCann) of Palmer, TX; two grandchildren, Weston and Halen Kannegieter; his mother, Marjorie “Marge” Kannegieter of Rock Rapids, IA; two brothers: Jim (Linda) Kannegieter of Little Rock, IA and Steve (Jackie) Kannegieter of Sibley, IA; four sisters: Pam (Dale) Nerby of Siren, WI, Norine (Leland) Kruse of George, IA, Deb (Dan) Kruse of Rock Rapids, IA and Becky (Mike) Bergquist of Bemidji, MN; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Magali Kannegieter; his father, John “Junior” Kannegieter; and sister, Denice Kannegieter.
