Alan "Al" Hoppe age 54, of Sibley, Iowa passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2023, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Pastor Tim Nappe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley, IA.

Alan Ray Hoppe, known as Al, was born on February 3, 1969, in Primghar, Iowa, to Marvin and Florebel Hoppe. He was raised with his three older siblings, Bradley, Valerie and Douglas, and regularly attended Grace Lutheran Church. He graduated from Primghar High School in 1987 and attended South Dakota State University, where he pursued a degree in pharmacy. He met Brenda Unrau at the O’Brien County Fair dance in the summer of 1988 after his first year at SDSU. Al and Brenda began a long-distance relationship while she attended the University of South Dakota. Brenda quickly transferred schools to be with him. The two married on May 22, 1993, in Paullina, Iowa.

After getting married, Al and Brenda moved to Sibley, Iowa, where Al worked as a pharmacist at Barama Drug. He worked there for 15 years before he and Brenda purchased the pharmacy in 2008. Al loved his job as a pharmacist, but he loved being a dad to his two kids, Alec and Claire, even more. He coached Alec and his Otter Creek Crushers team for four years and Alec and Claire’s REC softball and baseball teams for seven years. Watching his kids was his greatest joy, and he loved cheering them on at all of their sporting, music, and extracurricular events.

Al enjoyed playing and watching all sports, but football was his favorite. He was an avid Los Angeles Rams fan and SDSU Jackrabbit fan, but he quickly added the Iowa State Cyclones to his favorites list when Alec and Claire attended ISU. Even in his last days, ESPN was always on the TV, and he was making adjustments to his fantasy football team. Al was also very passionate about his faith. Through different trials in life, Al grew a close relationship with God and prioritized time in prayer. After his passing, Al’s family finds rest knowing he is walking hand-in-hand with his Lord in Heaven.

Alan is survived by his wife, Brenda, son Alec and his wife, Sarah, and daughter Claire and her husband, Carter. Al is also survived by his siblings, Bradley, Valerie and Douglas, and his first grandchild, Florence.

He is predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Florebel, and his mother-in-law, Jacqueline.
