   Arnold “Arnie” Dwire age 80 of Ashton, Iowa died Sunday, October 27, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

     Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church, rural George, Iowa, with Pastor Brian Schafer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Baker Township Cemetery, rural Melvin, IA.

     Visitation will be Thursday, October 31st from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church, rural George.    

     The Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is handling arrangements.

     Arnold Dean Dwire was born on January 27, 1939 in Cherokee, IA, the son of Willis and Augusta (Fix) Dwire. He grew up in Mason City and Melvin, IA. He enlisted in the United States Navy on February 29, 1956 and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1959. On May 11, 1957, Arnie was united in marriage to Deanna Wiese at the Westmister Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN. To this union three children were born, Tony, Todd and Travis. The couple made their home in Worthington, MN and Arnie was a police officer there for 28 years. Arnie was a member of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church and theWilliam Ben Hoffman American Legion Post No. 290 in Ashton. He was an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 134 in Worthington, Commissioner for Prairie Hills District and Vigil honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a Silver Beaver Award recipient for Sioux Council Boy Scouts of America. Some of his hobbies included gardening, carpentry which he learned from his father-in-law and fixing lawnmowers and boat motors in his spare time. Arnie was very proud to carry a lifetime fishing license that he never used.

     Arnie is survived by his three sons, Tony (Donna Cunningham) Dwire of Hartford, SD, Todd (Marki Lueth) Dwire of Baxter, MN and Travis (Shannon Blom) Dwire of Luverne, MN; their mother Deanna (Wiese) Dwire; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; special friend, Patty Tjepkes of Ashton, IA; two half-sisters, Edith (Howard) Wagner of Elk Point, SD and Bonnie (Marvin) Brandt of Aurora, CO; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Dwire and Augusta Colshan; stepsister, Flossie Mastbergen.
