Barbara Ann Hollaren

     Barbara Hollaren age 82 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 31^st at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA, with Reverend Kathy Sides officiating.

     Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday, October 31^st at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice in Barbara’s name.

     Barbara Ann Hollaren was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa in 1937, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Julian) Hollaren. She was the youngest of seven siblings – Roland, Fabian, Francis, Eileen and twin brothers, who died at birth. Her sister, Eileen Murphy, died just 22 days prior to Barb’s death.

     Barb spent her entire life in Rock Rapids. After her graduation from high school she went to work for the Lyon County Treasurer’s office. Barb also provided the sole support for her widowed mother. She retired in 1992 from the Lyon County Treasurer’s Office after 37 years of service. She was very proud of the work that she did for the citizens of Lyon County. Barb enjoyed crafts, flowers, reading and attending the Lyon County Fair. She was especially fond of her cats, Precious and Cuddles.

     In March of 2018 Barbara entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre where she remained living until recently.

     Although Barb had no children of her own, she was a much-loved aunt of Eileen’s children, her nephews Pat, Dick and Tom Murphy, and niece Sheila (Murphy) Cynkar. Her other nieces and nephews include Mary Jane Hollaren, Anne (Hollaren) McPartland, and Patrick Hollaren.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pearl Hollaren; six siblings, Roland Hollaren, Fabian Hollaren, Francis Hollaren, Eileen Murphy and twin brothers.

     The Hollaren family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful care provided at the Rock Rapids Health Centre and Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.
