Rock Rapids, IA Betty Daib age 91 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at at Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, November 9, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Mark Hansen. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be 9:30 AM to the time of service at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Betty Jean Bruzer was born 12 April 1927 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was the only child of John H. and Helen (Wick) Bruzer. She graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1945. On November 24, 1945, she married Ammon Jul Sexe in Jackson, Minnesota. They lived in Whidbey Island, Washington, while Ammon was serving in the Marines. After he was discharged, they lived in Hills, Minnesota. They had one son in 1947; they were divorced in 1951. Betty married Walter Herman Lebens in Rock Rapids on December 6, 1953. They lived in Ellsworth, Minnesota, where they owned and operated a butcher shop, meat market, and grocery store. They had one daughter in 1954. Walt died of kidney failure in 1956. On 3 November 1957, Betty married Herbert Luther Daib. They had one daughter in 1958. Betty and Herb lived in Iowa, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Idaho. Herb died of colon cancer in 1988. After Herb died, Betty continued to live and work in Idaho. In the mid-1990s, she moved back to Rock Rapids to spend time with her mother. Her mother died in 2000. Betty was a devoted mother to her three children. When she worked outside the home, she worked for Allbright Abstracting in Rock Rapids, Iowa; the County Superintendent of Schools in Rock Rapids, Iowa; Kootenai Health Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and Doris Doty Casuals in Rock Rapids, IA. Betty enjoyed golf and other sports. She was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and cheered for the Minnesota Vikings, when they weren’t playing the Broncos. She was a skilled craftsperson, excelling at knitting, embroidery, and quilting. Traveling was another pastime she enjoyed. She went on cruises, vacationed in Hawaii, and drove across country to visit family and friends. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church everywhere she lived. Most recently, she was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Until June 2018, Betty was able to live on her own in the home her family had owned since 1948. She moved into the Rock Rapids Care Center at the end of June. She is survived by her three children, son, Steve Daib and his wife Diane Loe of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Jolene Daib and her husband Edward Russo of Eugene, OR; and daughter, Debra and her husband Rick Fraker of New Braunfels, TX; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her three husbands.
