Betty (Rypkema) Siebring was born October 14, 1931, on a farm southwest of George, IA the daughter of William and Ida (Smid) Rypkema.  Betty grew up on the family farm and attended country school.  Betty was an active student in the choir, glee club and band, graduating from George High School in 1949.  She attended college in Dubuque, IA, majoring in Elementary Education.  In the fall of 1952, Betty began teaching at Dale 9 country school east of George.  On June 6, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Arvin Eilders, and to this union three children were born, Kent, Kim and Kandyce.  Betty and Arvin made their home on farms and in communities in Iowa, Minnesota and Kansas.  Betty taught school at Rural Center in Abilene, KS and worked various jobs during her lifetime.  Betty’s relationship ended with Arvin.  While visiting George for a July 4th celebration with her family, she met Gordon Siebring and a relationship started.  On April 3, 1982, she and Gordon were united in marriage.  They spent the next 38 years working, traveling and enjoying their time together.  They took many memorable trips together.  Betty was a member of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church where she was baptized, and over the years, she was an active member of the Dorcus Society.  She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Kiwanis and the Gideon Auxiliary.  As Betty’s memory declined, Gordon faithfully cared for her until January of 2020 when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in George where she died this past Thursday morning at the age of 89.  She never met a stranger and always left a friend with a smile.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon of George, IA; her three children, Kent (Kate) Eilders of Gypsom, KS; Kim (Don) Montgomery of Solomon, KS and Kandyce Eilders of Sioux Center, IA; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, John (Donna) Rypkema of George, IA and Richard (Elaine) Rypkema of Hot Springs Village, AK.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida.
