  Betty L. Timmerman age 92, of Rock Rapids, IA passed away on July 22, 2024, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 25th at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with Father Roger Linnan as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Holy Name Catholic Cemetery of Rock Rapids.

  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice-Sioux City and/or Holy Names Catholic Church – Religious Education.

  Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of services.

  Betty Louise Timmerman was born March 20, 1932, in Larchwood Township, Lyon County, Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Magdalen (Neu) Roemen. She grew up in Rock Rapids, IA and graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1950. 

  After high school she worked as a switchboard operator for the local telephone company. She was united in marriage to Wilbur D. Timmerman on April 5, 1951, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids. Following their marriage, they lived in various communities as Wilbur worked in construction, building churches and schools, they were also blessed with the birth of their son Larry. In 1965 they returned to Rock Rapids. Betty began working at J.C. Penny’s Store as a bookkeeper. She later worked many years for her brother, Jim, at Rexall Drug Store in Rock Rapids. 

    Betty was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, active with the St. Catherine Society. She loved playing basketball in High School. She also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and spending time with her family. In 1977, Betty and Wilbur began spending weekends at their cabin by the lake.

  On September 4, 1992, Betty’s husband Wilbur died unexpectedly. Betty continued working at Rexall Drugs for many years, retiring when the store closed in 2019.

  On December 5, 2023, Betty entered Lyon Specialty Care and remained there until this past Monday, July 22, 2024, where she died at the age of 92. 

  She is survived by her son, Larry (Cheryl) Timmerman of Rock Rapids, IA; three grandchildren; Amber (Don) Scholten, and their children, Madison (Tony) DeSmett, Hudson and Jaxston Scholten of Ivanhoe, MN, Andrea Timmerman of Rock Rapids, IA, and Dustin (Julie) Timmerman, and their children, Ashlyn, Brooklyn and Braxtyn, of Rock Rapids, IA; brother, Jim Roemen of Rock Rapids, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

  She was preceded in death by her husband Wilber of 41 years, parents, William and Magdalen Roemen; a stepmother, Irene Roemen; two siblings, Helen Roemen and Walt Roemen; and a sister-in-law, Sue Roemen.
