Bonnie Gacke

Larchwood, IA      Bonnie Maye Gacke, age 81 of Larchwood, IA died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Canton, SD.      Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 27th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Fr. Doug Klein and Deacon Jeff Gallagher as concelebrants. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery.      Visitation will be Sunday, August 26th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present, at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a Vigil service at 7:00 PM at the church Sunday evening.      In lieu of flowers, the family wish memorials to be directed to the Larchwood American Legion Auxiliary.      Bonnie Maye Gacke was born September 18, 1936 in Lennox, South Dakota, the daughter of Elso Dan and Bessie (Everson) Otten. She graduated from Washington High School in 1953.      She was united in marriage to Vince Gacke on May 28, 1955 at Sioux Falls, SD. Bonnie was a wife and mother first. After the children left she worked as a cub reporter for the Lyon County Reporter for many years.      She was a member of The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. She was active as a Sacristan and with the Alter Society. She also was a member of the Flessner Post 561 American Legion Auxiliary and served 3 years on the Larchwood Library Board. She enjoyed family vacations, playing cards, hugs and jigsaw puzzles.      She is survived by her husband, Vince; her children, son, James (Debbra), daughter, Karen (Robert) Johns, son, Mark (Ronda), daughter, Cathy (Brian) Anderson, daughter, Sheri (Todd) Russell, son, Lyle (Angie), and daughter, Molly (Curt) Holtz; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and many other extended family.      She was preceded in death by her parents, Elso and Bessie Otten; brother, Danny (Barb) Otten; sisters, Lorna (George) Brown, Betty (Vern) Kenyon, and Donna (Warren) Stone.
