Bonnie Jean Schroder was born on April 20, 1952 at the hospital in Mountain Lake, MN. She was the daughter of Walter and Adeline (Sawatzky) Penner. She was raised in the Mountain Lake area and graduated from the Butterfield High School. When Bonnie was in her teens, she was baptized at the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. Before her marriage, Bonnie worked as a secretary at the Caldwell Packing Plant. It was during that time she met her husband-to-be, Bob Schroder. They were united in marriage on April 12, 1986 at the Emmanuel Church in Delft, Minnesota. To this union, two children were born, April and Kenton. Bonnie worked various jobs over the years and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Her favorite and most important role, however, was being Mom and Grandma. She loved her family very much, and in her later years, babysitting her grandchildren was her joy. Some of her favorite pastimes were writing poems, reading, camping, and most of all, spending time with the ones she loved. Bonnie’s health began to fail her in the last year, and although she fought well, it took its toll. Last Saturday, June 29th, Bonnie passed away at the age of 67. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert Schroder; daughter, April (Reid) Krull of George, IA; son, Kenton (Katie) Schroder of Ashton, IA; two grandchildren, Colton and Brinley Krull; two sisters, Darlene Baerg of Windon, MN and Judy Duerksen of Mountain Lake, MN; brother, Larry (Marilyn) Penner of Bingham Lake, MN; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Allen Baerg and Arnold Duerksen.
