Bonnie Lyn Wilson, age 69 years, found her eternal peace after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, October 13, 2023 surrounded by her sons. Bonnie was born March 22, 1954 in Austin, MN to Richard and Joyce (Koele) Mohr. Throughout her youth, the family moved several times. Bonnie attended seven schools from kindergarten through high school. Upon graduation from Canton High School, she attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Bonnie married Ken Wilson in 1976 and later divorced. From this union came two sons, Derek and Blair. Bonnie worked for Health Services of Lyon County for 30 years before retiring in 2019. Bonnie always enjoyed an active life filled with social activities and her family. She was an active member of the Rock Rapids United Methodist Church and served on several different committees. She was actively involved in the Sunday School program for many years as well as being part of Hannah and MisFits Circles. Bonnie also enjoyed being part of PEO and Beta.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading, walking with her dear friend Chris, spending time at the lake, and a bustling social life. She shared many years with her companion Steve Simons, and they enjoyed attending various events in the area, being part of each other’s family events, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

Bonnie was known and loved by many people in her community, and adored her children and grandchildren who knew her as “Grandma B.” She always wanted her grandchildren to know that they were the sunshine of her life. She spent a great deal of her time attending their events, finding fun activities to do with them, crafting, baking cookies, and loving them with all her heart. She enjoyed weekend visits to Adel to see Camden and Kade, and she loved attending their sporting events and being their biggest cheerleader. Reagan and Cora enjoyed wearing a path in the ground between their house and hers, two houses down, to stop for some after school cookies, and weekly pancake supper dates. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed.

During the last years of her life, she faced many health challenges, but approached each with a positive attitude and unfathomable strength. She always had a heart for her family and friends, and continued to find ways to brighten their days throughout all of her battles.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Derek (Cherri) and grandchildren Camden and Kade Wilson of Adel, IA; her son Blair (Sarah) and grandchildren Reagan and Cora Wilson of Rock Rapids, IA; her companion Steven Simons of Larchwood, IA; her sister Darcy (Dan) Olstad of Lakeville, MN; her sister-in-law Paula Liepold of New Prague, MN; brother-in-law, Martin Wilson of Ivanhoe, MN; nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
