Carol Grave

Little Rock, IA

     Carol Ann Grave age 80 of Spencer, Indiana formerly of Little Rock, Iowa died Sunday, July 24th, 2022, at Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer, Indiana.

     A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 30th, 2022, at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa with Reverend Barry Wynveen, officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock.

     Visitation will take place Friday, July 29^th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock.

     Carol Grave was born December 23rd, 1941, the daughter of Carl and Gracie (Wiertsema) Sprock in Sibley, Iowa.  She grew up near Rock Rapids and Little Rock.  She attended school in Rock Rapids and earned her high school diploma.

     On October 5, 1959, Carol was united in marriage with Durvard Grave in the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa.  They were blessed with four children, Delrae, Eugene, Douglas, and Craig.  They farmed for 5 years before moving to Inglewood, California where Durvard pursued his aviation career with Flying Tigers while Carol balanced working outside the home with raising 4 children. In 1974 They returned to Rock Rapids, Iowa where they established Bud’s Flying Service which provided air charter, maintenance, and flight training. Carol managed this business for many years and went on to establish several other successful businesses such as the Sportsman’s Lounge in Rock Rapids and the Alton Laundromat. She and Durvard made 12 moves in the 62 years of their marriage including Ohio, Mississippi, Tennessee, Iowa, Indiana, and California. Carol and Durvard retired in 2002.  She enjoyed computers, photography, horses, knitting, sewing, gardening and spending time with family.

    Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Eugene Grave of Spencer, IN, Doug Grave of Glenwood, IA, and Craig Grave of Tucson, AZ, seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; along with extended family and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Durvard; her parents Carl and Gracie Sprock; daughter, Delrae Bennett; and grandchild Mathew (Matt) Grave.
