Carol Schnepf, 77, of Sibley, Iowa died at Sibley Specialty Care peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Visitation will be at the Jurrens Funeral Home from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Saturday, September 5, 2020. The family will be present. Face masks are required, and social distancing guidelines will be followed. A private family, graveside service with Pastor Terry Simm officiating will follow at Holman Township Cemetary of Sibley.

Carol Jean Schnepf was born September 5, 1942 in Adrian, Minnesota to Clarence and Tena (Dammer) Janssen. She grew up on a farm near Rushmore, Minnesota, and later graduated from Worthington High School. She loved the farm life and enjoyed the farm animals, especially her horses.

After high school, she moved to Sibley, Iowa and got her first job at The Creamery (AMPI) as a bookkeeper. At 19, she met (in her words) a good looking, athletic, young man in a sports car that came and asked her if she wanted a ride. Carol married Dan Schnepf in 1961 and they settled in Sibley and started their family. To this union, 4 children were born - Kim, Brian, and the surprise of identical twins - Karey and Karla.

Carol spent most of her life working as a bookkeeper in the family business, Schnepf Lumber. Working with her boss/husband, Dan, she enjoyed the coffee breaks and conversation at the Downtown Cafe with other Sibley businessmen. The flexibility of her work gave her time to take care of her family and attend many of their activities. Together, Carol and Dan built 5 houses in Sibley, as well as many other building projects with family. Carol loved going to the family cabin at Spirit Lake and seemed to enjoy listening to her husband brag about his cooking and fishing skills.

In 1991, Carol was diagnosed with MS but kept upbeat as the disease took her freedom. Despite her limitations, her family kept Carol mobile and she was frequently seen at local sporting events, particularly Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals basketball games and later enjoyed seeing her own grandkids compete in sports. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, loved March madness, NFL football and was often winning the office pools. She also loved to garden, bowl, do crossword puzzles and play cards.

Carol passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, just four days from her 78th birthday. She will be lovingly remembered by her 4 children and their families: Kim (Schnepf) and Mike Watts of Kansas City, Brian and Kim (Andersen) Schnepf of Sibley, Karey (Schnepf) and Jed Winkel of Spirit Lake, and Karla (Schnepf) and Dale Hanna of Sibley. Grandchildren are Ty Hanna, Dani Winkel, Sam Schnepf and Cooper Winkel. She also leaves behind three brothers - Donnie, Arnold and Marvin Janssen and a stepfather, Don Gingerich.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dan, and her mother, Tena (Janssen) Gingerich and father, Clarence Janssen.
