Carol Ann Ver Hoef

Rock Rapids, Iowa 

     Carol Ann Ver Hoef age 87 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, November 10th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Pastor Travis Remme officiating.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

     Burial will be at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.

     

     Carol Ann Ver Hoef was born October 3, 1936, in Ashton, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Sprock) Hollander. She was raised in George, IA and graduated from George High School in 1955. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, IA and Westmar College, where she studied elementary education. 

     Her first teaching assignment was in 1957 for Estherville School District.

     She was united in marriage to Floyd R. Ver Hoef on August 20, 1958, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA.  Together they made their home in Rock Rapids, IA, and Carol continued teaching 3rd grade for Central Lyon School District, until 1963, when they were blessed with their daughter, Lisa. In 1970, Carol worked as a paraprofessional at Central Lyon, retiring in 1990. 

Carol was an active member of the United Methodist Church.  She had past roles in the Naomi Circle, serving as secretary, treasurer, and president.  She taught Sunday School for many years, assisted with confirmation class, taught and served as superintendent for Bible school.  She enjoyed word searches, adult coloring books, and watching TV.  Carol was especially devoted to her mother and aunt Sena Dietz and remained devoted until their death. She enjoyed any time she got to spend with her family and friends.

     Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa (Douglas) Hewitt of Urbandale, IA; granddaughter, Mackenzie (Andy) Minnick of Des Moines, IA; brother, Darold (Glenda) Hollander of Enid, OK; sister, Janice Mahler of Littleton, CO; sisters-in-law, Karen (Denton) Olson, and Wilma Miller, all of Rock Rapids, IA; along with extended family and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Floyd; aunt and uncle, Jake and Sena Dietz; brothers-in-law, CJ Gustafson, Gene Miller, Paul Mahler; and sister-in-law, Judy Gustafson.    Blessed be her memory!
