     Carolyn K. Wasmund age 81 of Sibley, Iowa died Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, IA.

     Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 1st, at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     Carolyn K. Wasmund was born October 7, 1942, in Sheldon, IA, the daughter of John and Eva (Vos) Kroese. She was raised in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1960. While in high school she worked as a bellhop at the local A & W restaurant. She moved to Bigelow, MN and began working at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington, MN.

     She was united in marriage to Daryl Wasmund on April 28, 1962, in Sibley, IA. While living in Bigelow, she took the U.S. Postal Service test and was hired for a clerk position. She traveled as a fill in clerk for several years, until she was hired as the Postmaster in Bigelow on April 15, 1983.

     Carolyn and Daryl moved to Sibley, IA in 1994, where they owned the Merry Lanes / Alley 7, the local bowling alley. Daryl ran the bowling alley and Carolyn continued as Postmaster in Bigelow. She retired in 2002, after nearly 35 years of federal employment.

     Carolyn enjoyed bowling, especially league bowling and couples’ tournaments. She also enjoyed dancing, attending her grandchildren’s events, playing cards and scrabble, fishing, and never missed the daily crossword puzzle. Her favorite times were spent with family, especially Christmas.

     On April 25, 2024, she entered the Country View Manor Home in Sibley, due to a recent injury, and remained there until this past Friday, April 26, 2024, when she died at the age of 81.

     She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Daryl Wasmund of Huron, SD; three children; two sons, Breck (Karen) Wasmund of Sibley, IA and Michael Wasmund of Huron, SD; a daughter, Jennifer (Shaun) Kruger of West Liberty, IA; daughters-in-law, Patricia Evenson of Red Wing, MN and Beth Kreykes of Sibley, IA; seven grandchildren, Abby (Brett) Coufal, Ally (Brian) Jensen, Lindsey (Kyle) DeDecker, Jacob (Natalija) Kruger, Alexa (Andrew) Schaffhausen, Alyssa (Drew) Kruger and Chase Wasmund; eleven great-grandchildren, Cael, Kayne, Dannah, Jaylee, Easton, Connor, Hunter, Archer, Walker, Banks, Milena; two brothers, Rich (Diane) Kroese of Spirit Lake, IA and Arthur (Valera) Kroese of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Kroese; twin infants, Terry and Jerry Wasmund; a sister, Deanna Noordhoek; three brothers, Harold, Clarence, and Donald Kroese.
