Christina Mccarthy

October 26, 1943 — September 18, 2022

Christina was a native Chicagoan, born to Stanley and Jane Konz on October 26, 1943 in Chicago. Her childhood was a happy one, spending lots of time with her cousins and friends at South Shore beach.

After graduating from South Shore High School, she met Mayo Peter McCarthy Jr. (Pete), a tool and dye maker apprentice, on Valentine’s Day 1963. They married on July 10, 1965, and spent their first 5 years in apartments in Chicago. They welcomed their first son, Michael, in March 1966, and their second son, Mayo Peter III, in May 1968. They bought a home in Libertyville, a northern suburb of Chicago, in 1970, and lived there for 47 years. Tina loved sewing, and sewed draperies at home for several years to help support the family. She was also instrumental in the success of their tool and dye business, which they began in 1983.

Tina enjoyed thrift stores and garage sales, and had fun sharing her good-deal stories with friends and family. Tina was a creative soul, enjoying crafts and cooking. She would often be found watching Julia Child or the Food Network, or reading cooking magazines. Her family was treated to her delicious banana bread, “world famous” beans, and countless other dishes. She and Pete enjoyed riding motorcycle together across the country.

Tina was a kind, compassionate person, as well as a devout Christian and faithful attendee of Faith Baptist Church. She loved her grandkids, and enjoyed being generous to them. She taught her family the importance of giving to others, listening, and being humble. She was a wonderful mom to Mike & Pete, and a fun and loving grandma to her 6 grandkids.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her husband Mayo Peter McCarthy Jr., son Michael (Angela) McCarthy, son Pete (Rachael) McCarthy, grandchildren Erica, Rebecca, Paige, Noelle, Ethan, and Margot McCarthy, plus many other family and friends.
