     Christina Weerheim Vonk age 91, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

      Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 30, 2023 at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids with Pastor Steve Van Wyhe and Pastor Amy Ryals, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM until the time of service.

Christina Hendrika Spykerboer was born on November 27, 1931, the daughter of Christiaan and Dena (Vander Wolde) Spykerboer in Steen, MN. She attended school in Steen, MN and graduated from 8th grade in Doon, IA. On February 9, 1950 she married Arthur Weerheim in Steen, MN. Following their marriage they lived near Edgerton, MN where they farmed. In 1952, they moved to Artesia, CA where they speculated in buying and selling homes. During these years, Christina raised two children, were janitors at church, taught Sunday School and ran a rabbit farm. In July 1972, Christina got her cosmetologist license and practiced at Dottie’s Beauty Shop. In 1973, they moved to Montevideo, MN and purchased the sale barn. In 1974, they moved to Rock Rapids and owned the A & C Drive-In until 1980. After 43 happy years of marriage when Art passed away in 1993, Christina remained in Rock Rapids where she babysat her grandkids and continued to do hair.

On November 12, 1999, Christina was united in marriage to George Vonk. They resided in Sioux Center, IA. They went on numerous bus tours together. They enjoyed many winters “snowbirding” in Arizona, playing shuffle board, playing cards, and visiting with friends. George passed away in 2020, after being married for 21 years. Following this, Christina moved back to Rock Rapids to Premiere Estates. In December, Christina moved to Lyon Specialty Care and remained there until Sunday, March 26, where she died at the age of 91.

She was blessed with an infectious smile and loving personality. She loved people and would help anyone in need. She was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Christina loved sewing, baking, gardening, and visiting with friends and family. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Phil (Trudi) Weerheim of Ripon, CA and daughter Cheryl (Dave) Hulstein of Rock Rapids, IA; 5 grandchildren – Brooke, Kassi, Nathan, Heidi & Molly and 18 great grandchildren; George’s 7 children – Bennie Vonk, Jan Faber, Sharon Boeyink, Larry Vonk, Glenn Vonk, Bonnie Fedders & Bruce Vonk and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; step siblings Harold (Joyce) Van Wettering of Hospers, IA; Lucy Van Wyhe of Hills, MN; Richard (Jannete) Van Wettering of Washington.

Christina was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Arthur Weerheim; second husband, George Vonk; step brothers, Otto Van Wettering and Gerrit Van Wettering.
