Clarice Ruth Huisman was born on December 24, 1939 in Ellsworth, MN, the daughter of Weert Jr. and Gertrude (Russman) Huisman. She grew up on a farm east of Ellsworth and attended Ellsworth Community School. Clarice graduated from Ellsworth Community School in the class of 1957 and then went on to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. She studied education and attended college for two years and was offered a teaching position and completed the remaining two years in night classes, graduating with honors and achieved a BA Degree in Education. She taught grades 4 through 6 for a number of years in Ocheyedan Elementary and Paulina Elementary, public schools in Iowa.

After teaching in Iowa, Clarice moved to Worthington, MN with her sister, Lois to continue her teaching career in the Worthington Public School. She taught there for many years and moved back during the summer months to live in Ellsworth, with her mother. After a number of years of teaching, her mother’s health was beginning to fail, so Clarice retired from her teaching career and moved back to Ellsworth to stay and care for her mother, in the family home.

Clarice was a lifelong member of Bethel Reformed Church and was a member of the BWM (Bethel Womens Ministry) group. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years, and thoroughly enjoyed working with and teaching the children.

Clarice enjoyed her life. Some of her many hobbies included gardening, reading, traveling, walking outside, listening to music, and playing the piano. She was beloved by all her nephews, nieces, great-nephews and-great nieces. Clarice & Lois spent countless hours reading and playing games with them all as they grew up.   Everyone loved to come and visit them in Ellsworth and many holidays were spent with all the kids excited to tell them both all about what has been happening in their lives. She was selfless with the kids and loved them all.

For many years Clarice had been dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis and had endured many bouts with pain. On March 16, 2020 she suffered a stroke and was taken to Sanford Hospital in Luverne, MN and then to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. After a period of time in Sanford she opted to try rehabilitation in the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE where she underwent two weeks of therapy.   After rehab at the Madonna she was then admitted to Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth on May 14, 2020, where she remained until her death this past Saturday, June 13, 2020.

Clarice is survived by her sister Lois M. Huisman of Ellsworth, MN; a sister-in-law, Ruth Huisman of Ellsworth, MN; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her Father Weert Jr, Mother Gertrude; Brothers, Wayne (Iva), Emerson, Paul (Joy) and Niece Wanda Kooima.
