Clifford Groen, age 92, of Little Rock, IA died Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday July 12, 2022, at the Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George, IA with the Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with the family present on Monday July 11, 2022, also at the Zoar Presbyterian Church.
Clifford Merel Groen was born on April 25, 1930, at rural George, IA to parents Ollie and Clara (Denekas) Groen. He attended country school south of Little Rock, IA until the 8th grade.
On Feb 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to Verla Klingenberg at the Zoar Presbyterian Church of George, IA. The couple lived on an acreage 4 miles south and 2 miles west of Little Rock until 1959, when they moved to their permanent home 3 ½ miles south of Little Rock, where they lived and farmed until Clifford’s health failed him requiring him to move into the Good Samaritan Society in George earlier this year.
Mr. Groen was a member, elder and deacon of the Zoar Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed his grandkids and great grandkids very much, teaching them to ride horse and rope. He was a member of the Sibley Roping Club for 15 years. Clifford also enjoyed “welding and making things out of nothing.”
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Verla, of 67 years; two sons, Mervis (Lorie) Groen and Orvis (Cheryl) Groen both of Little Rock, IA; five grandchildren, Cory (Tammy) Groen, Stacy (Chad) Sneller, Lance (Mandy) Groen, Evan (Laura) Groen and Ethan Groen; seven great grandchildren, Aftin, Cade, Avery Groen, Taryn Odens, Presley Sneller, Briggs and Maddux Groen.
Preceding Clifford in death were his parents, Ollie and Clara; two sisters, Henrietta and Frances; three brothers, Clarence, George and Verdell; a sister-in-law, Frances Groen.
