Constance "Connie" Honkomp

     Constance “Connie” Honkomp age 74 of Ashton, Iowa died Friday, February 17, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

     A memorial mass will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Siby Punnoose, celebrating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Ashton.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with the family present.  There will be a Rosary at 9:00 AM.

    Constance “Connie” Joan Garrod was born on March 5, 1948 in Laurens, IA to parents Thomas and Cleo (Ihry) Garrod.  She grew up in Fonda, IA and was a 1966 graduate of Fonda High School.  Connie then attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD where she studied bookkeeping. On April 4, 1970 she was united in marriage to William Honkomp in Fonda, IA.  Later Connie worked at the Ashton State Bank as a bookkeeper and teller.  In her leisure time, Connie enjoyed crafting with her sweet “Golden Girls”, playing cards and going out to eat with her fellow “Winers”. She had a love of music and Dodgers Baseball, and had other hobbies that included flower gardening, travel, and antiquing. Connie loved her community and spent much of her time as the caretaker of the DeBoer Grocery Museum in Ashton, IA and was also involved in the American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved her Catholic faith and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. Her family and especially the time she spent with her grandchildren gave her life great meaning.

     Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, William Honkomp and their three children: Damion (Barbara) Honkomp of Spencer, IA, Jessica (Michael) Steffen of La Crosse, WI, and Jena (Jonathan) Maloney of Hiawatha, IA; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two loving sisters, Sharon Schnetter and Lynda (William) Fettes, both of Sioux Falls, SD, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Cleo Garrod.

Connie’s fun-loving personality will be greatly missed.
