Constance Ann “Connie” McCarty was born on October 12, 1937, to George and Anna (Van Beek) McCarty of Larchwood, Iowa. She grew up on her family's farm southeast of Larchwood, doing chores, riding horses, playing piano and organ, and accompanying her dad on livestock trucking trips. She attended grade school at Logan #5 south of her home and graduated from Lester High School in 1956. Connie worked at Diamond Watch & Jewelry in Sioux Falls after high school and, in May 1959, married Paul L. Reinke of Larchwood. Paul and Connie moved to their own farm at current-day 1361 Buchanan Avenue, Larchwood, in 1962 and raised a family of six.
Connie was a devoted mother and grandmother, a hardworking Iowa farmer, and a generous and caring neighbor and friend. She was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church - St. Margaret’s Circle, worked the farm alongside Paul in his 'n' hers John Deere tractors, and raised her own herd of Red Angus cattle. Her kids have fond memories of her being there when they came home from school, baking chocolate-chip cookies, Rockhill cookies, anise candy, spice cake, and many other delicious goodies. Connie also served in the Cow Belles, performed housecleaning during the farm-devastating recession of the '80s, and operated Connie's Antiques & Collectibles in Larchwood in the early '90s.
Connie is survived by her children: Sherry (Mrs. Terry) Bolding of Larchwood; Brenda Lundy (Mrs. Dale Miller) of Rio Vista, California; Ann Hoffman and Charles Reinke, both of Larchwood; and Raymond (Mandi) Reinke of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as her brother James L. McCarty of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and sister Jeanne Swenson of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by son Timothy, her parents, brother George, and husband Paul.
May God grant her eternal peace.
