Curtis Allan Behrens was born April 22, 1950, the son of Arnold and Henrietta (Sohl) Behrens. Curtis grew up on the family farm in Lyon County Iowa west of George. He attended George Community School and graduated from George High School in 1968. He continued his education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA and later transferred to Westmar College in LeMars, IA. On October 27, 1973, he was united in marriage to Iva Duin at St. Paul Lutheran at Hull, IA. They made their home in Rock Rapids for 13 years and in 1987, they moved to Curtis’ family farm where they lived, worked and cared for the farm until Curtis’ passing. Curtis was a caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a devoted, disciplined and hardworking farmer. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and grandchildren and loved to share himself with others, by having a good time and laughing. Curt loved to attend his grandchildren’s hockey, basketball, baseball, soccer, band concerts and softball games. He was their number one fan and was always on the sidelines cheering them on. Curt was also a very active member in the farm bureau for 25 years. He always looked forward to attending the meetings and talk about farming. He was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church by serving in many capacities. He especially enjoyed connecting with the youth by teaching Sunday School.
