Dale Slykhuis, age 91 of Sibley, Iowa, formerly of Ashton, Iowa died Friday, April 8, 2022, at Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, IA.
A funeral service will be held at10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13th at the Ashton Bible Church in Ashton with the Rev. Dan Kunnari officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, IA.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Ashton Bible Church.
Dale Russell Slykhuis was born March 5, 1931, at Corsica, SD the son of John and Maggie (Vanden Hoek) Slykhuis. Dale grew up and attended school in Boyden, IA. Dale enjoyed playing baseball and passed his love for sports on to future generations. After graduation he served his country in the United States Army. On December 27, 1954, Dale was united in marriage to Marlene Van Loh at the Ashton Presbyterian Church. For the next 20 years, he farmed near Ashton before going to work at the Ashton Elevator retiring after 23 years. Dale and Marlene moved to Sibley in 2016. Dale and Marlene were committed to the mission of the Ashton Bible Church and were always willing to serve wherever they were needed. During his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities.
Dale is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marlene of Sibley, IA; their children, Jeff (Nora) Slykhuis of Custer, SD; Daryl (Kay) Slykhuis of Sioux Falls, SD and Alan (Patty) Slykhuis of Ashton, IA; twelve grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; his siblings, Delmar “Jack” (Kathryn) Slykhuis of Boyden; Shirley Baartman of Altus, OK; Donna Parkhurst of Des Moines, IA and Joan Hansmann Orange City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie; daughter, Marcia; sister, Polly Van Der Linden and stepbrother, John Eernisse
