Darlene Harms

      Darlene Harms age 96, of George, IA died Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

       Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021, at First Baptist Church at George, IA with Rev. Sean Mustain officiating.  Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

     Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, July 1st from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

     Darlene Mae (DeNeui) Harms was born March 18, 1925, to George and Minnie (Ackerman) DeNeui in George, IA.  She attended George Public School for 12 years and graduated in 1942.  She was an active member in band, music groups and was a cheerleader.  Upon graduating, she worked in the George State Bank and for Harvey H. Hindt, lawyer in Rock Rapids.  On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Harms and they farmed on the family farm until they retired in 2000.  She enjoyed participating in her children’s school activities.  Darlene was a 4-H leader and she helped in Girls Scouts.  She later went back to work for Bob Wolfe, accountant in Sheldon and for Jim Wells, CPA, in Rock Rapids.  Darlene was saved when she was 12 years old under the ministry of Paul Hutchens and was baptized the same year at Central Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher and played piano for many years.  In 1996, she joined First Baptist Church and served as clerk and played organ for many years.  She enjoyed the ladies groups in both churches.  She loved music and enjoyed attending music events.  She was a charter member of Red Hats and was an active member for many years.  She and Kenneth were charter members of Kiwanis and also members of the George Chamber.  She enjoyed writing her own autobiography in 2013 and gave out copies to her children.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially to all of their 5 children.  They enjoyed winters in Texas and Arizona and enjoyed trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas.  She enjoyed her home and stayed in it until May of 2021.  Darlene passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, Iowa at the age of 96.

     Darlene is survived by her children, Donna Martin-Howell (Joe) of Tucson, AZ; Dean Harms (Eileen) of Grand Island, NE; Kay Stubbe (Paul) of Spirit Lake, IA; Kent Harms (Paula) of George, IA; Brent Harms (Cathy) of Apple Valley, MN; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mickey Kruse-Arneson of Medina, MN; 1 sister-in-law, Lavina (Ted Harms) Lichtenberg of George, IA; and 1 very special friend, Junior Stubbe of George, IA.

     Darlene was proceeded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, George and Minnie DeNeui; three brothers, Art, Alvin, Cliff; one sister, Viola.
