Darlene Kruger, age 94, of George, IA died Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA with Rev. Steve DeHaan officiating. Burial will follow at the Hope Reformed Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 10th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family present at the Hope Reformed Church of George.
Darlene Margaret Kruger was born March 22, 1925 in George, IA to Harm and Minnie (Jansen) Goldhorn. She received her education with George Community Schools and went on to receive her teachers’ certificate from Cedar Falls Teaching College. She taught for 3 years. On September 8, 1944 she was united in marriage to Ira Kruger at her parent’s home in George, IA. After they were married they lived in Matlock, Iowa. From 1952 to 1957 they farmed in Minnesota. In 1957 they moved to a farm west of George and remained there until they moved into George in 1988. Along with working as a teacher in her younger years, Darlene also worked at the Campbell Soup Company in Worthington, MN, as a CNA at Good Sam for 10 years and was a wonderful farm wife. Darlene and Ira loved to travel. After they retired, they took bus trips and went on church mission trips. They enjoyed each other very much. Ira passed away in November of 2007 after 64 years of marriage. Darlene was a member of the Hope Reformed Church where she was involved with the Esther circle, Ladies Guild, sang in the choir and a lady’s quartet as well as being involved with Sunday School. Darlene made quilts for each of her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter, Delinda (Ron) Cordes of Gridley, IL; son, Robert (Harriet) Kruger of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Marla (Rich) Ahrenholtz, Charlene (Joel) Bathke, Ina Faye (Alan) Hilbrands all of George, IA; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Young of Downs, IL, Sara (Judd) Swensen of West Union, IA, Sherri (Scott) Lehrkamp of Sioux Falls, Troy Kruger of Winner, SD, Patrick Kruger of Madison, SD, Kari (Matt) Matuska and Daniel Ahrenholtz of George, Ryan (Karlee) Bathke of Sioux Falls, SD, Justin (Melissa) Bathke of George, Becky (Omar) Mamboleo of Harrisburg, SD, Heath (Tara) Hilbrands of Boyden, IA, Stefanie O’Leary of Rock Rapids, IA; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Van Tilberg of Rock Valley, IA; brothers-in-law, Don (Leona) Kruger of George and Arvin (Gerry) De Berg of Belding, MI; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ira; 7 brothers-in-law; and 5 sisters-in-law.
