     Darrell Brown age 80 of Hills, MN died holding the hand of his forever love “Marie” Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

     A Private Graveside Memorial Service for family will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Hills, MN with Pastor Gary Mikkelson officiating.

     Darrell Dean Brown was born on May 17, 1940 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Darold Brown and Helen (Stanton) Hoffman. He grew up in Hills, MN and later graduated from Hills High School in 1959.     In 1961, he was united in marriage to Marie Hiney at Valley Springs Lutheran Church in Valley Springs, SD. The couple made their home in Valley Springs for a year, then moved to Sioux Falls, SD for four years and now have lived in Hills, MN for over fifty-four years.

     Darrell worked for John Morrell for thirty-two years and then for twelve years, for the Luverne Public School. He worked as a custodian and truly loved being around the children. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. He served on the Hills Fire Department for twenty-one years. Darrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family, going on short trips, also was a loyal Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, watching his sports on TV. In earlier years he enjoyed square dancing with wife & friends. He was an honest man with a good sense of humor, who would tell you his thoughts possibly with a chuckle. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and he was deeply loved by his family.

     Darrell is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Marie Brown of Hills, MN; three children, Darrell W. (Cindy) Brown of Sioux Falls, SD, Shelly (Vince) Swenson of Luverne, MN and Sandra Brown of Mankato, MN; four grandchildren, Casey (Lindsey) Swenson of Brandon, SD, Katie (Jesse) Petersen of Luverne, MN, Cameo (Chris) Kolhoff of Sioux Falls, SD and Cody (Lexi) Kelly of Sioux Falls, SD; nine great-grandchildren; six siblings, Wayne (Marilyn) Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Bruce (Donna) Hoffman of Sioux Falls, SD, Dennis (Stacey) York Hoffman of Spring Valley, MN, Linda (Charlie) Chada of Albert City, IA, Sandy Brown of Havelock, IA and Darold Brown of Pocahontas, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents, Darold and Phyllis Brown and Walter and Helen Hoffman; one sister, Sherry Buysse; and three brothers, Ken Hoffman, Charles Hoffman and Terry Brown.
