     Daryl Laverne Schwarzkopf, age 89, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Country View Manor in Sibley surrounded by his family.

     Visitation will be Monday, April 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, IA.  There will be a rosary at 5:00 PM.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Father Siby Punnoose as celebrant.

     Burial will follow in the St. Andrew’s Cemetery in Sibley, with Military Honors by George E. Mudge American Legion Post No. 324, William F. Allard VFW Post No. 7373 and the U.S. Army National Guard.

     Daryl was born on December 15, 1934, in Ashton, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Alethia (Eichmann) Schwarzkopf.  He graduated from Sibley High School in 1953.  After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On November 11, 1955, Daryl married Shirley Waltjer, the love of his life.  He started his career at the Osceola Co-op Creamery. In 1970, he became the manager of A.M.P.I., where he would work until he retired in 1992.

     Daryl enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his friends and family.  For over 20 years, Daryl and Shirley had a trailer at Royal Oaks on East Lake Okoboji where he loved spending time fishing, boating, taking the grandkids for golf cart rides and creating lasting memories with his family.  His children and grandchildren brought him so much joy.  Daryl also enjoyed restoring and building classic cars, and attending car shows.

     On May 11, 2019, Daryl had the pleasure of going on a Veterans Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C.  He was a proud veteran and so very honored to get this opportunity.  He was a member of the George E. Mudge American Legion Post No. 324 of Sibley and the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley.   

     Daryl is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley; their three children, Pam (Paul) Alexander, Steve (Connie) Schwarzkopf, and Janet Ackerman, as well as 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Draper; brother, Bob Schwarzkopf; sister-in-law, Pat Schwarzkopf; brother-in-law, Harley (Mavis) Waltjer, and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alethia Schwarzkopf; brother, Gary Schwarzkopf; parents-in-law, George and Martha Waltjer; sisters-in-law and husbands, Dolores & Harry Wiertzema and Marcella & George Julius; and brother-in-law and wife, Vernon & Mae Waltjer.
