     Daryle Hilbrands age 90 of George, Iowa died Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in George.

     A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 24, 2022 at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church, rural George, Iowa with Pastor Brian Schafer officiating.

     A prayer service will take place at 10:00 AM, Monday at Jurrens Funeral Home in George with burial to follow the prayer service at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

     Visitation will take place Sunday, January 23rd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with the family present at Jurrens Funeral Home in George.

     Daryle William Hilbrands was born on December 15, 1931, in George, IA, the son of William and Lola (Spiegal) Hilbrands. He attended country school and later graduated from George High School in 1950. In 1952 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and went through basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. On October 20th of that year, he left Camp Kilmore New Jersey by boat to northern Germany, then took a troop train to Bordeaux, France. He was stationed at Camp Bossac in France, serving as post engineer and head electrician. In January of 1954, he made his journey home ending with a slow boat ride to New Jersey. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1954.

     On April 19, 1954, Daryle was united in marriage to Hermina Westra and resided in Matlock, IA, where they were members of the Matlock Reformed Church. They lived in Matlock for three years, where he worked at Farmers Coop Elevator and Gas Station delivering gas and later feed. In 1957, they moved to a farm and started farming. Upon the closing of the church, they transferred back to his home church, Lyon County First Presbyterian rural George, IA. As a member of the Matlock Reformed Church and Lyon Country First Presbyterian, Daryle was very active serving as a Deacon and Elder during his time there. In 1964, they moved to the Family Farm and in 2002 they retired from farming and moved into George, IA.

     Daryle’s hobbies included restoring old tractors (mostly International). He also enjoyed modifying tractors to participate in tractor-pulls. Numerous times he would love to pull the church float with one of his favorite tractors.

     Daryle and Hermina dearly loved attending their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s church and school events.

     Daryle is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Hermina Hilbrands of George, IA; three daughters, Joyce Kramer of George, IA, Cynthia (Steve) Onken of Sibley, IA, Darla (Steve) Kruse of George, IA; ten grandchildren: Kelly (Tresea) Kramer of Del Rapids, S.D., Troy Kramer of Evansville, WI, Dustin Kramer of George, IA, Kimberly (Shane) Stettnechs of Longmont, CO, Angela (Faraz) Khan of Sibley, IA, John (Adele) Onken of Ashton, IA, Sarah (Matt) Welsh of Cresco, IA, Melissa (Grant) Kallevig of Prior Lake, MN, Will (Kelsey) Kruse of George, IA, and Carl (Jaeda) Kruse of George, IA; fifteen great grandchildren: Cory, Kody, Taylor, Austin, Kramer; Kyler and Pyper Kramer; Kasen Kramer; Acelyn Stettnichs; Zachrea Khan; Isadore Onken; Catherine, Penelope and Merrill Welsh; Elena Kallevig; and Mila Kruse; one brother, Dennis (Euclair) Hilbrands of Sheldon, IA; two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Van Kikerix and Alma Westra of Sheldon, IA; and two brothers-in-law, Marlowe (Ing) Westra of Washington and Ron Westra of Tallahassee, FL; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, William, and Lola Hilbrands; father and mother-in-law, Peter and Sue Westra; two brothers-in-law, Jacob Westra and Roger Westra in infancy; son-in-law, Jeffrey Kramer; and brothers-in-law, Bertha (Darrell) Dammann and Howard Van Kikerix.
