David Medema

     David Medema, age 85, formerly of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Care Initiatives in Sibley, Iowa.     

     David Ely Medema was born on May 17, 1938 and passed away on December 13, 2023. He was born and raised in Rock Rapids and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1956. He attended the University of Iowa and studied engineering. During the summers he worked for DeWild, Grant, and Reckert Engineering (DGR) as a land surveyor. He loved the work at DGR and the people he worked with and had a 50-year-long career with DGR. 

     Dave was married twice. From his first marriage, 3 children were born (Kelie, Blayne, and Brett). 

     Dave was an avid fan of and an excellent skeet shooter. He loved the sport, the competition and the camaraderie. His home is full of 100 straight hit awards and with the many trophies, he received from the area's skeet shooting competitions. 

     Dave also held a private pilot's license for years and gave his children several flights over the local area. 

     Before the Pool Hall closed Dave spent a lot of time there conversing with long-term friends and playing billiards.

     Private services will be held.
