Boyden, Iowa Dean Schmith age 78 of Boyden, IA died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Sheldon, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church rural Hull, IA with Rev. Aaron Deutsh officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA. In lieu of flowers, family wish memorials which will be directed to charity at a later date. Dean Schmith was born December 10, 1940 at home near Doon, IA to Arthur and Amy (Techen) Schmith. He was baptized at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hull. The family moved to a farm near Paullina, IA where he attended the Lutheran Parochial elementary school. They then moved back to the Doon and George area and Dean finished High School in Doon. His job was helping his father and area farmers. On September 2, 1960 he was united in marriage to LaDonna Harms. In 1962 they began their farming career which included milking his beloved Holsteins. Dean served as a director of AMPI for many years. He also served on the church cemetery board. After retirement he enjoyed taking his restored tractors to tractor shows and won many trophies. He also enjoyed collecting precision toy tractors. He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, LaDonna Schmith; six children, Ron (Marla) Schmith, Ricky (Sandy) Schmith, Randy (Janet) Schmith, Lisa (Gary) Vander Pol, Ryan (Britney) Schmith, and Roger Schmith and special friend Shayla Van Meeteren; grandchildren, Robbie Schmith, Sarah Avery and fiancé Matt Rabel, Mike and Kristie Keizer, Mark and Katie Schmith, Andrea Schmith, Cody Schmith, Preston Schmith, Brennan Schmith, Kale Schmith, Cassandra Vogt, Krystal Van Otterloo, Candice and Jaime Adame, Austin Staples, Sophia Schmith, Deacon Schmith, Natilie Schmith, Oliver Schmith; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Ken (Rosalie) Schmith; sister, Lila Hatting; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schmith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Patricia Harms; father and mother-in-law, Sylvester and Heikalena Harms. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Schmith; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Connie Schmith; grandson, Ross Radell Schmith; great-granddaughter, Destiny Joy Schmith.
