Delores Jurrens, age 92 of George, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in rural George with Rev. Jesse Sternke, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

Delores Ann Jurrens was born on December 1, 1932, to Fred and Fannie (Meinerts) Johnson. She was raised in Lyon County, Iowa, just south of Ellsworth, Minnesota. She attended country school in Midland Township.

Delores was united in marriage to Donald Jurrens on October 11, 1954, in her parents’ house. To this union, five children were born. She was a homemaker and had the biggest and best garden around. She canned everything to make sure she could feed her family. Besides her vegetable garden, she took great pride in her flower garden.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of George, Iowa. Delores and Florence Eben were in charge of the nursery at church for fifteen years. She was very involved with the Christian Hour Circle. Her faith in God was what kept her going through many hard times in her life.

Family was very important to her, having many get-togethers. She would send everyone of her family a birthday card when it was their special day. Not only immediate family was important, but also extended family. She always enjoyed hosting the Johnson Family Reunion.

She offered everyone a cup of tea and a cookie or a Baby Ruth bar who would stop and see her.

Delores made a baby afghan and quilt for each one of her grandkids and great grandkids and made many more to give as gifts to others. She loved to crochet, and Ben Franklin was her favorite store to get yarn from.  Delores enjoyed going for rides and looking at the crops and ending up at a McDonalds to get some fries.

She lived on her farm until she was 90. Then she moved to the George Nursing Home due to declining health where she passed away on December 31, 2024, at the age of 92.

Delores leaves to cherish her memory, her five children: Roger (Charlotte) Jurrens, Karen (Randy) Berning, Curtis (Brenda) Jurrens, Evelyn (Jerald) Green, and Eileen (Dave) Goedken.  Grandchildren: Ryan (Heather) Jurrens, Brandon (Kari) Jurrens, Sarah (Isaac Zimbleman) Jurrens, Emily (Ben) Hanenburg, Ryan Beyenhof (Angie’s husband), Shawn (Amber) Berning, Jenna Jurrens, Samantha Jurrens, Tracy (Dan) Henning, Terri (Brad) Sneller, Jason (Maria) Klaassen, Teresa (Adam) Bullerman, Kelsey Murray (Josh’s wife), Tom (Kari) Nolte, Nick (Jordyn) Nolte, Tim (Hannah) Nolte and Heidi (Alex) Kruse; along with 28 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Donald; 2 grandchildren, Angie Beyenhof and Josh Nolte; great granddaughter, Sophia Klaassen-Fastert; her parents, Fred and Fannie Johnson; her siblings, Iona Johnson, Sylvester (Betty) Johnson and 2 infant brothers, parents-in-law, Everett and Juel Jurrens; sister-in-law, Lylas (Ben) Smidstra; nieces, Marilyn Johnson and Pat Johnson; and nephew, Joel Smidstra.
