Donald Ripperda

     Donald Ripperda, age 87 of Larchwood, IA passed away on June 1, 2022 at his residence near Larchwood, IA.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday June 4, 2022 at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, Iowa with Ftr. Sunny Dominic, celebrating.  Burial will follow in the Larchwood Cemetery.

     Visitation will be Friday, June 3^rd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood.  There will be a 7:30 PM Vigil Service at the church.

     Donald Ripperda was born October 29, 1934, the child of Irenaeus and Gertrude (Daniels) Ripperda.  He grew up near Larchwood and graduated from St. Mary’s in 1952. 

     Donald entered the United States Army on December 5, 1955, where he became fluent in morse code.  He was stationed in Germany before his honorable discharge in August of 1957. 

     In 1958 Don started milking cows and milked cows for 43 years with his brother Jerry.  On April 20, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Janet Hansen.  They were blessed with one child, Bradley.  The couple lived on the family farm where Don worked his entire life.  After retirement, he gave the reins to their son, Bradley.

     Don was a member of the St. Mary’s choir, where he directed for over 50 years.  He was instrumental in acquiring a successful golf course in the Larchwood community.

     Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Janet; son, Brad of Larchwood, IA; sister, Rosemary (Don) Bruggeman of Larchwood, IA; brothers, Mark (Deb) of Larchwood, IA, Ray (Linda) of Larchwood, IA and John (Judy) of Le Mars, IA; sister-in-law, Marlene Ripperda; along with nieces, nephews and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Irenaeus and Gertrude, and brothers, Paul and Jerry (Terrisa) Ripperda.
