Donna Mae Hulshof was born August 27, 1951 in Sioux Center, IA to Gaynor and Elsie (Broek) Te Grotenhuis and was raised on her family’s farm near Carmel, IA. She attended Sioux Center Christian, Hull Western Christian, and Northwest Iowa Community College where she studied Office Administration.
Donna was united in marriage to John Hulshof on June 2, 1970 at Carmel Reformed Church and the couple first settled in Ames, IA. After John graduated from Iowa State in 1972, the couple moved to Algona, IA and soon welcomed their first child, Brian. The couple was also blessed by the birth of two daughters, Lisa in 1975, and Kelli in 1979. In 1977, Donna and John moved to Little Rock, IA where they lived for 21 years and raised their family.
Donna played organ in the church for 50 years and her love of music will continue on through the dozens of students to whom she taught piano lessons. She enjoyed reading books with a bowl of freshly popped popcorn, cookbooks and baking magazines full of new recipes to try, and afternoons at the movies with John. Donna’s friends will tell you that she was quick to laugh and always provided a shoulder to lean on during difficult times. Many people will remember Donna’s smiling face behind the desk of the Little Rock Public Library and Sanford Clinic Rock Rapids. She will be remembered as a loving wife, and a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Hulshof of Rock Rapids, IA; a son, Brian Hulshof (Marna) of Le Mars, IA; a daughter, Kelli Macleod (Ian) of Portland, OR; a son-in-law, Todd Warntjes and his special friend Heidi Dokter of Rock Rapids, IA; nine grandchildren: Wyatt, Grace, Noah, and Ella Hulshof; Mitchell, Anna, and Isaac Warntjes; and Abigail and Eliza Macleod; a brother, Wayne Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center, IA; a sister, Beth Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center, IA; parents-in-law, Arnold and Dorene Hulshof of Sioux Center, IA; a sister-in-law, Pam (Rick) Anderson of Sioux Center, IA; a brother-in-law, Ron (Conni) Hulshof of Sioux Center, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
