Donna Lou Niessink

     Donna Niessink age 69 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Thursday, June 24, 2021, at her home in Rock Rapids, IA.

     There will be a public visitation only on Wednesday, June 30^th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

     Donna Lou (Van Voorst) Niessink was born February 10, 1952, in Sioux Center, IA, to Richard and Lucy (Van’t Hul) Van Voorst. She grew up in Sioux Center, attended Sioux Center Christian School and Hull Western Christian. Donna attended the school for nursing in Sioux Falls, SD and was a nurse in many nursing homes in Northwest IA and Sioux Falls, SD. Donna’s life was her residents of these long care facilities, showing them love and compassion. Many said of her “once a nurse, always a nurse”.

     Donna married Rickie Niessink September 3, 1971, and they made their home in Rock Rapids, Sibley, and Spirit Lake. Rick and Donna were blessed with one daughter, Vicki Jo, and her son Rykker Harr. Donna and Vicki were diagnosed with MS in 2010 and Vicki passed from MS in 2014.

     Grateful for sharing her life is her husband of almost 50 years, Rick Niessink of Rock Rapids, IA, grandson Rykker Harr, Sioux Falls, brother Gary (Claire) Van Voorst, Brandon, SD, and her sister Jo (Herlan) Zomer from Canton, SD. Donna’s nieces and nephews remember her fondly.

     Donna was proceeded in death by her daughter, Vicki Jo Harr, her parents, and her parent’s in-law.
