     Dorothy Dirks, age 92, of George, IA died Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

     Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24^th at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA, with Rev. Oryn Meinerts officiating.

     Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.

     Visitation will be 9:30 a.m until the service at the church.

     In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Dirks family for later designation.

     Dorothy Mae Dirks was born on May 31, 1927 in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Isaac and Jennie (Meinerts) Browen. She grew up in the Emery and Cottonwood, SD areas and attended country school there. On October 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Bernard Dirks at the Bethel Reformed Church near Ellsworth, MN. To this union four children were born; Travis, Yolanda, Kevin and Marcel. The couple farmed near Ellsworth, MN until 1977, when they moved to George, IA. During the time they lived near Ellsworth Dorothy worked at Park View Manor. Dorothy was a member of the Dorcas Circle when they lived near Ellsworth and were members of the Bethel Reformed Church. After moving to George, they became members of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George. Her hobbies included quilting, collecting turtles, gardening, baking, cooking, doing word search and she was an avid reader. Dorothy will be greatly missed.

     Dorothy is survived by her husband of seventy-two years Bernard Dirks of George, IA; four children; Travis (Michelle) Dirks of George, IA, Yolanda (Dick) Bohl of Lake City, FL, Kevin (Carol) Dirks of George, IA and Marcel (Shelli) Dirks of George, IA; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and two on the way; one sister, Charlene (Jim) Kuehne of Worthington, MN; brother-in-law, Alfred Dirks of George, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Jennie Browen; and ten siblings.
