   Dorothy Groote, age 93 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

     Memorial service will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 11^th at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Terry Simm officiating.

     Burial will take place prior to the service in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery, rural George, IA. Family will meet at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley at 1:00 PM and process to the cemetery.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10^th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     Dorothy Groote was born on March 30, 1926 in Melvin, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Winnie (Rosenboom) Backer.  She grew up in Melvin and graduated in 1944.  On August 25, 1944, Dorothy was united in marriage to Frederick Groote in Sibley, IA.  To this union three children were born, Bernard, Robert and Marilyn.  Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.  She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross stitching and handy crafts.  She will be greatly missed.

     Dorothy is survived by her three children:  Bernie (Maxine) Groote of George, IA, Bob (Pam) Groote of Sibley, IA and Marilyn Marnach of Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Winnie Backer; stepmother, Ida Backer; husband, Frederick Groote; sister, Ruth Loerts of Sibley, IA; brother, Ervin Backer; infant brother, Donald; stepsister, LaVonne Balt; two stepbrothers, Delbert and Calvin Kadous.
