Dorothy J Helmers

     Dorothy J. Helmers age 91 of Boerne, TX formerly of Sibley, IA died Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Morningside Ministries in Boerne, TX.

     The Funeral will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel in Sibley, IA with Rev. Doug Noonkester officiating. Burial will follow at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA.

     Visitation will be Friday, August 9^th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel in Sibley, IA.

     Dorothy J. Helmers was born January 18^th, 1928 in Allendorf, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lois (Moar) Davids. She lived in Allendorf, moving to Sibley when her father passed away.  She attended Sibley High School, graduating in 1946. She worked in Sibley at Millers Department Store and the Keith M. Merrick Company.

     Dorothy enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.  In the summer, she enjoyed being at the pond on the farm her family homesteaded near Allendorf.

     Dorothy married Roger Helmers on Feb. 25, 1947.  Together they worked the family farm. She was active in many church activities at the Sibley Baptist Church. 

     Survivors include three sons and their wives, Gary and Cecilia of Orange County, California, Robert and Diane of Ames, Iowa, and Rod and Donna of Saint Simons Island, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kristin (Doug) Burford, Jill (John) Stewart, Kimberly (Ryan) Standard, Michael and David Chandler Helmers; and seven great-grandchildren.

     Dorothy was lovingly cared for by her granddaughters Kristin and Jill during her time in Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her parents, her brother John Davids and her sister Donna Wills.
