 Dorothy Ann Steiner passed away in the early hour of January 13, 2025, at the Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in Hull, IA.

  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  Dorothy Ann Steiner was born on March 26, 1934, to Elmer and Hildur (Davidson) Guptill on the family farm outside of Hinckley, Minnesota. Her early years were spent on the farm where she indulged in reading when she had time. She started High School in Hinckley at the age of 13, when she moved to a boarding house during the week because there was no bus service. She graduated from Hinckley High School in 1951. She went to work for the St. Paul insurance Company and worked there until her marriage to Joseph Steiner on May 4, 1953, and lived in California while Joe finished his Navy service and then moved to Brook Park, MN. 

  The marriage brought 5 children, Patricia, Timothy, Diane, Joseph Jr and Janet. Dorothy was a homemaker in the early years of marriage and family. In 1957, they moved to the Eagle Grove, IA area,

In 1967, the family moved to Rock Rapids, IA. Dorothy went to work in Dr. Griesse’s office as a bookkeeper. When Dr. Griesse moved, she went to work for the Veterinary clinic in Rock Rapids working there for over 35 years. She loved working with animals and having a few around the office. She enjoyed her pets at home including the adopted pet that that the kids said, “Look what followed me home!”. She was also known to encourage others to adopt pets needing a home. 

  Her husband, Joe, passed away in 2009. She attended church at the United Christian Church and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

  She is survived by her children, Patricia Broesder (Gary), Timothy Steiner (Karen), Diane DeBoer (DeeDee) and Joseph Jr. (Paul Cordell); seven grandchildren, Jessica, Ben, Adam, Kaela, Karissa, Luke and Laurence; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Janet Kruger; son-in-law, Brent DeBoer; her parents; her parents-in-law; her sister, Carol and her husband, Norm; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
