    Douglas L. Wiarda age 79, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, May 4, 2023 at his home in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, May 9th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

     A prayer service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 9th at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Matt Polsdofer, officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Lunch will be served immediately following at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

     Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of services.

     Douglas Lee Wiarda was born October 24, 1943, in Edgerton, Minnesota, the son of Cecil and Mary Ann (Kruizenga) Wiarda. He grew up in Edgerton and graduated from Edgerton High School.

     On June 11, 1967, he was united in marriage to Karla Rae Olson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA. To this union two children were born, Chad and Adam. Doug worked for D.G.R in Rock Rapids for many years before working for Lyon County, where he did survey work for secondary roads.

     Doug and Karla were inseparable! They were each other’s best friends and made the most of every moment in life. In 2000 Karla was diagnosed with cancer and battled courageously for 12 years, Doug never left her side, until Karla succumbed to the disease, on February 20, 2012.

     Doug enjoyed riding on his Harley trike and fishing. Doug kept busy with activities in the community, attending auctions, taking daily rides around town and spending time with his family.

     This past Thursday, May 4, 2023, Doug died at his home in Rock Rapids, IA at the age of 79. He is survived by his two sons, Chad Wiarda and his children Claire Ann and Cole Jeffrey of West Des Moines, IA; and son, Adam (Christy) Wiarda and their children Adelyn Rae and Carson Lee of Wakonda , SD; two brothers, Bob Wiarda of Duluth, MN  and Jeff Wiarda (Patty)of Sheldon, IA; brother-in-law, Denton (Karen) Olson of Rock Rapids, IA; sister-in-law, Karen LeMonds of Rock Rapids IA; brother-in-law Russ(Robyn) Olson of Waukee, IA; brother-in-law Orlynn (Donna) Olson of Louisville, NE; and many other extended family.

     Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mary Ann Wiarda; mother and father-in-law Arnold Olson and Lorie Etta Thompson (Tal), brother Merle Wiarda, loving wife of 44 years, Karla Wiarda.          Doug and Karla finally together again……….
