Duane M. Loerts

Sibley, IA

     Duane Loerts age 91 of Sibley, IA died September 13, 2019 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, September 20^th at First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA, with Pastor Terry Simm and Pastor Maggie Gisch officiating.

     Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA.

     Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley.

     Duane Martin Loerts was born on December 28, 1927 to Martin and Ruth (Sixta) Loerts at Sibley, Iowa.  He grew up on a farm northwest of Ocheyedan and attended country school.  He graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1945.  After high school Duane owned and operated a milk route before serving in the Army during the Korean War. 

      On June 14, 1954 Duane was united in marriage to Lois Post.  To this union four children were born, Patricia, Terri Lynn, James, and Mary. 

      Duane was a lifelong farmer.  He was the fourth generation on a farm that was bought in 1888 by his great grandfather.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served on various church boards, Farm Service Agency, fair board, elevator board, and Horton Township trustee. 

     Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of  65 years, Lois Loerts of Sibley, IA; three children, Patricia (Peter) Hansen of Ruthven, IA, James (Sue) Loerts of Omaha, NE, Mary (Tim) Erdle of Forest Lake, MN; six grandchildren, Jennifer Krieg, Scott Hansen, Daniel Erdle, Brittany Bader, Justin Loerts, and Dylan Loerts; two great grandchildren, Mercedes Krieg and Lennox Krieg; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ruth; daughter, Terri Lynn; sister, Marlys (Henry) DeBoer; and brother, Art (Marie) Loerts.
